Issue 3, 2002Katkalo V. S. Strategic Management Theory: Development Stages and Main Paradigms This article deals with the analysis of the development of strategic management theory during the last 40 years. The author proposes a concept of this theory chronology, that consists of three main stages. Each of those is characterized by the dominance of a certain school of thought (planning, positioning and resource-based, respectively) and by the focus on internal (first and third stages) or external (second stage) sources of successful strategies. The conclusion that the future progress of this academic discipline is connected with the fruitful dialogue between non-orthodox economic theories of the firm and organization. << Contents: Issue 3, 2002 ![]() |
