A Hard Choice (Case Study) The case describes the problems of strategic choice: a small company successfully working in the engineering market (automation of technological processes) in the electric power industry has to make a decision on its further development in a changing external environment and increased competition. The case was carried out to be used in training programs of different levels within the courses “Strategic Management”, “Innovation Management”, “Strategic Analysis Methods”, “Change Management” when considering the issues of development strategy, the impact of environmental changes on the possibilities and prospects of the company, decision-making in situations of conflicts of interest. The case is based on real situation referring to the company, locating in Novosibirsk — one of the large Russian scientific and industrial centers. The data were collected through a series of special interviews with company’s management staff, maintained during 2010–2011 period. In addition data laid out on the official site of the company were used. To collect information on the engineering market in the electric power sector we used publications in Russian scientific journals and reports on conferences.
