Greiner L. E. Evolution and Revolution as Organizations Grow

This article has become a classic of the theory of organization and management, and reviews five phases of growth, all the growing organizations are passing through in the process of their development. Every phase of the growth includes both the period of evolutional growth, when there are no great changes in the organizational practices, and the period of revolution. Each period of evolution delivers its own evolution. Whether organization is capable to get to the new phase of development depends on the proper decisions top management takes.
